Client Project Goals

artBOOK’D is an art tour booking app that guests can book art tours hosted by partnered galleries of their choice quickly and easily.

- Cater to busy working entrepreneurs & students: Provide a seamless direct flow from start to finish with less waiting time.

- Modernize the app: They would like to fully convert into a functional booking app instead of having bookings made through calls and Google Forms.

- Increase ticket sales from general public : Expand their reach by making the booking accessible to everyone

Problem

Users want to be able to view event timings and book them in advance, without having to physically queue for tickets.

Solution

artBOOK’D allows users to seamlessly book an art tour of their choice in advance, with an e-ticketing system to beat the queue during the event.

Interviews

Users want to be immersed in art & cultural experiences but does not know where and when these events are happening.

We conducted a total of 15 interviews to get a better understanding of who our users are. We made it a priority to find users who fall within the following categories:

  • Busy working parents, who loves attending art events

  • Anyone who are avid art collectors & enthusiasts

  • Fine art students

Personas

Jenn is a successful architect who loves to spend time with her family and would love to schedule art tours to fulfil her emotional needs.

We created two personas based on our research synthesis. Jenn is our primary persona and represents the busy working parent artBOOK’D is hoping to reach and build a positive experience for.

Competitive Analysis

artBOOK’D is an art tour booking app AND a platform for art exhibitions and events.

We did extensive research on both competitor event booking apps and art exhibitions platforms. We took a deep dive into what services our competitors were providing, and how we can integrate features onto our own app.

Sketches

A design that is visually impactful in the decision making when booking a tour.

Before we began sketching, we took some time to align ourselves with what was most important - a visual experience catered and accessible to all ages. We then brainstormed flows that would be heavily visual orientated for the booking process.

Easy navigation is the key to a seamless booking.

Before focusing on visual design, we built out a low fidelity prototype to see if our designs were even successful. Would users find it intuitive? Are we addressing our users' pain points?

We particularly wanted to focus on easy navigation, because it was one of our user’s main concerns. To address this, we minimize the amount of screens needed to book the tickets.

Usability Testing

Users struggled to book an art tour intuitively on the homepage.

We conducted 2 rounds of usability testing. Our first round was for our low fidelity and the second round for the high fidelity.

Design Iterations

Improving the main navigation, art event page and e-ticketing system

Based off of the usability testing feedback we received, we made multiple changes to address the user’s frustrations with our app.

Next Steps

How to continue artBOOK'D

This was my first UX project during my time at Google UX Design and I definitely learned a lot from the experience! 🎉

Usability testing for design changes.
The next step would be to test the design changes made to the homepage and booking page. While we believe this is a good solution based on our usability testing feedback, it is important to do another round of usability testing to ensure validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.

How will users be notified on the upcoming art event?
More research would need to be done to figure out how this can be implemented. Some possibilities we have explored: push notifications for users who wants to be alerted for events.
